Letter from the CEO: More Than a Seal: What CARF Accreditation Says About Our Commitment to Quality

At Spectrum Works, we believe quality is not something you simply say you value. It is something you demonstrate every day through the way you serve participants, support families, partner with businesses, and invest in your team.

That is why we are so proud to have earned a Three-Year Accreditation from CARF International, through March 31, 2029, for Community Employment Services: Employment Supports, Community Employment Services: Job Development, and Employee Development Services.

While the accreditation itself is an important milestone for Spectrum Works, what means even more to us is what the process affirmed about our work and our commitment to the autistic young adults we serve.

An Independent Look at the Work We Do

CARF accreditation provides an opportunity for an independent organization to evaluate the quality of an organization’s services, practices, and commitment to continuous improvement. For Spectrum Works, the process gave us an opportunity to reflect on the systems and people behind our mission, while also hearing directly from the participants, families, businesses, funders, board, and referral partners who experience our work firsthand.

The results were incredibly meaningful.

CARF found that “Spectrum Works is a highly regarded provider of employee development services and community employment services in the state of New Jersey.” CARF also found that “Spectrum Works demonstrates a high level of quality in its program services, as evidenced by its strong community reputation, ethical practices, and commitment to excellence.”

But perhaps most importantly, the feedback demonstrated that our commitment to quality is being felt by the people and organizations we serve.

Putting Participants at the Center

At the heart of Spectrum Works is a simple belief: employment should be meaningful, individualized, and connected to each person's goals and interests.

CARF specifically recognized that, “The employment team consistently places the participants' needs, preferences, and interests at the forefront of service planning and delivery. Services are individualized and person centered, with the participants actively involved in goal development, decision making, and ongoing plan reviews.”

That recognition is particularly important to us because our goal has never been simply to help someone get a job. We want to help autistic young adults build skills, find opportunities that are right for them, and develop the confidence and support they need to succeed.

CARF also heard directly from participants about their experiences with our team. Participants unanimously expressed strong satisfaction with the organization's leadership and employment team. They said, “They are like family to me,” “They listen to me,” “They have taught me a lot,” and “They are kind.” The report notes that participants view leadership and staff members as true partners in helping them achieve their life goals.

Those words are a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

Building Stronger Partnerships With Employers

Our mission also depends on employers who recognize the value of neurodiverse talent and are willing to create meaningful opportunities in their workplaces.

We were especially proud to see CARF recognize the strength of our employer partnerships. “Businesses expressed unanimous satisfaction with and trust in Spectrum Works’ employment team.” Our employer partners also “indicated that the organization consistently meets and/or exceeds the expectations of employers.”

CARF further found that the companies we work with “feel that the employment team is skilled at bringing them qualified candidates, having provided them with strong job coaching and the right amount of ongoing support to ensure that they remain valuable members of the work team.”

CARF also recognized what has always been central to our approach: “The organization has a laser focus on connecting with businesses that offer careers and not just jobs, removing obstacles to ensure that each participant is successful in his/her individual endeavors.”

That distinction matters.

We want to help businesses find talented, committed employees while creating opportunities where autistic young adults can build careers and contribute meaningfully to their workplaces. When the right employee is matched with the right opportunity, everyone benefits.

A Recognition of Our People

This accreditation also belongs to the Spectrum Works team.

CARF recognized our organization's foundational commitment to workforce development and noted the importance we place on giving our staff the training and tools they need to deliver high-quality services.

Our staff members are the people who turn our mission into action every day. They build relationships with participants and families. They work with employers. They provide coaching and support. They solve problems, adapt to individual needs, and continue looking for ways to improve.

That kind of culture is something we are incredibly proud of, and it is something we intend to continue strengthening.

A Milestone, and a Commitment

Earning Three-Year CARF Accreditation is an accomplishment worth celebrating. But we don't see it as the finish line.

We see it as a reflection of the work we have done and a commitment to the work ahead.

Our responsibility is to continue listening to participants and families, supporting our employer partners, investing in our staff, and finding new ways to improve the services we provide. Accreditation gives us another important benchmark for that ongoing work.

CARF's assessment captured something that we strive to live out every day: “A culture of collaboration and continual improvement permeates the organization.”

For Spectrum Works, that is what this accreditation is ultimately about. It is not just a seal or a credential. It is an affirmation of our commitment to quality, accountability, person-centered services, and the belief that every autistic young adult deserves the opportunity to build a meaningful career.

We are proud of this milestone, grateful to the participants, families, employees, business partners, board, funders, referral partners, and community members who make our work possible, and excited to continue building on this foundation.

Because at the end of the day, the greatest measure of our work is the difference it makes in people's lives. As CARF recognized, “The organization routinely changes lives through the services it provides.”

Our organization’s philosophy is to use a mixture of identity-first (for example ‘autistic person’) and person-first (for example ‘person with autism’) language, to reflect the diversity of preferences in the autism community.
